I am a first-year teacher at a small school in the urban-D.C. area. This year has been the craziest of my life.
A short list of things that have actually happened to me this year, for your reading pleasure:
- Our school moved into a new building
- I started designing my own curriculum
- The door to my classroom broke (for no apparent reason) and we could only get in with: a ladder, wire coat-hanger, ruler, and duct-tape. Twice.
- My SmartBoard didn't work with my computer, so I have used a projector on a cart this year.
- My student said, "the world needs more people like you."
- I began learning how to teach reading while teaching reading.
- I was involved in a dog attack and broke my finger 13 times.
- I found out that teachers are a very strange bunch. :)
